30 Most Influential Fictional Characters

Influential?  Fictional Characters?  Well, that may be stretching it just a bit, but this list will give you a small glimpse into my ever expanding personality!

I found this idea at the blog, All She Has To Say, and loved it!  If you decide to do this, please let me know, I would love to read yours as well.

Without thinking about it too much, list 30 characters that:
  • you really enjoy, or
  • identified with, or
  • perhaps has influenced you, or
  • whom you will simply not forget!

Literature

  1. Anne: from the Anne of Green Gables Series (8 books total), by L.M. Montgomery.  I love her fire, her wit, and her process on learning how to be loved after years of abuse as an orphan.  Her story was so beautiful, I still love to read it!
  2. Camilla: from the series done by Elizabeth Aston, a continuation from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (one of Mr. Darcy's Daughters).  She is always willing and eager to help anyone that is down on their luck without so much as a care of how society will treat her for it!
  3. Meg: from Louisa May Alcott's, Little Women.  She just seemed like the perfect older sister...I am the eldest in my family...I do wish I had been more like her!
  4. Betsy: from Maud Hart Lovelace's series, "Betsy, Tacy and Tib."  Besides being written and taking place in my home town, she had just enough mischievousness that I could easily identify with her.  I always envied the relationship she had with Tacy and Tib, I would have loved that!
  5. Ligia: from Quo Vadis, by Henryk Sienkiewicz.  I most identified with her during a Roman party, she was terribly uncomfortable there.  She was a modest Christian young woman and was terribly out of place.  I never liked going to parties or large social gatherings either...for the same reasons as Ligia.
  6. Hadassah: from the Mark of the Lion Series, by Francine Rivers.  Oh my goodness but she was amazing!  She was not written to be a heroine as much as a testimony for our Lord, Yeshua.  She went through so much and yet stayed so faithful to God...fabulous series!
  7. Rachel: from Brock and Bodie Thoene's, Daughter of Zion.  She survived WWII, she traveled back to Israel and endured the wars there to keep the land...wow, this was an incredible series!
  8. Marty: from Janette Oke's, Love Comes Softly.  I had been a single mother and identified with her broken heart and the inner struggle to keep moving on, sometimes through blinding tears, for the sake of her baby even though almost wanting to die from the burden of sorrow.
  9. Peter and Edmund: from the Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis.  Oh but I love Peter and Edmund!  Every time I read those books, I see my sons in those roles...High King Peter the Magnificent and King Edmund the Just...very thrilling!
  10. Aragorn: from J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings.  I just cannot help but see my husband as this incredible warrior and protector...I get goosebumps thinking about it!
  11. Katherine (Kate): from William Shakespeare, The Taming of the Shrew.  She starts off as a horrible and nasty creature, and then ends as the most beautiful of all women...not due to her looks, but rather with her character and personality.
  12. Dr. Jake Cooper: from The Cooper Kids Series, by Frank Peretti.  Yes, this is a children's series, but I enjoyed them growing up and also again when my kids started reading them.  Dr. Jake Cooper was like the father I did not have growing up...exciting, adventurous and pointed everything in life to Scripture!
  13. Kevin: from Ted Dekker's Thr3e.  I think in many ways, he embodies most people.  Even though this was a fictional book, Kevin's character made me reevaluate how I see people...even people that appear "normal."
  14. Mack: from William P. Young's, The Shack.  This was a hard book to read.  I cried all the way through...literally.  I read it in one day.  I had some serious hurts that needed some healing and I identified with Mack's character and the brokenness he needed to face before the healing could take place.  (yes I know, this is a controversial book)
  15. Fanny Price: from Mansfield Park, by Jane Austen.  She felt in many ways unloved and second rate growing up.  Me too, but we both finally...FINALLY had a happy moment in marrying the men we loved!
Film

  1. Mr. Darcy:  from Andrew Davies interpretation of Pride and Prejudice.  Colin Firth did an incredible job of portraying a "man's man, " yet with class, elegance and style!  I married Mr. Darcy!  My husband is SO much like this it is just unbelievable!
  2. Captain Jack Sparrow: from Pirates of the Caribbean.  My Grandmother says he is a "Ding Bat."  Well, he is an unforgettable "Ding Bat!"
  3. Caleb: from Fireproof.  What an incredible transformation!  He truly was an inspiration to my children, they love this movie.  The first time I watched it was with a box of Kleenex.
  4. Mary: from The Passion of the Christ.  I loved how they portrayed her a mother and all the flashback's she had of Yeshua as a child.  Those were some of my favorite parts in the movie.
  5. Moses: who can deny that Charlton Heston's portrayal of Moses in Cecil B. DeMil's "The Ten Commandments," was unforgettable?
  6. Coach Haskin: from Glory Road.  I don't even like basketball, but I think even I could have learned to like it with how inspirational this man was!
  7. William Wilburforce: from Amazing Grace.  What a wonderful man!  I am looking forward to reading his biography in the future!
  8. Molly Gibson: in the BBC performance of Wives and Daughters.  She is so sweet and adorable and her stepmother and stepsister just make me so mad.  Reminds me of Cinderella in a way.
  9. Margaret Hale: from the BBC performance of North and South.  She stuck to her guns and did not give in to the man she was attracted to until she knew his true character.  I thought this to be very admirable!
  10. Elinor Dashwood: the BBC 2008 performance of Sense and Sensibility.  Hattie Morahan portrayed the character beautifully...just like I read it in the book!  I was able to identify with her character, especially after my mother died...during the funeral and mourning process.  Somebody had to keep a cool head about things.
  11. Flynn Carson: from the Librarian Trilogy.  I just love how smart this man is and yet how innocent he appears.  He is like James Bond meets Einstein meets the boy next door.  Love it!
  12. Hadassah: from One Night With the King.  I can't help it, I just love the story of Esther!  I personally thought that Tiffany Dupont was excellent.  And, I can't help but mention that I loved her Queenly wardrobe as well.
  13. Optimus Prime: from The Transformer movies.  Even though he is a fictional character, he embodies the valor, honor, and sense of duty that seems lost these days.
  14. Daniel Deronda: portrayed by Hugh Dancy.  Wow...talk about a difficult position to be in...in between two women!  I enjoy how he went through his life struggles with grace.  He was not perfect, but he chose very well in the end...purpose over fleeting pleasure.
  15. Coach Grant Taylor and Wife:  This dynamic couple was a pleasure to watch in, Facing The Giants!  Our whole family loves this movie and of course, I need Kleenex with this one too.  I just love how their struggles are portrayed and how they allowed the Lord to come in and be Sovereign in their lives and circumstances!
